Yamaha Driveshaft Shortening Service
CAD $ 275.00
Yamaha driveshafts are often exceedingly long in mini jet boat applications. Leveraging their non-necked geometry we are able to shorten the shaft by cutting and re-splining it with specialty tools to precise tolerances – no sketchy shaft welding that would warp or compromise the strength of the driveshaft!
The shaft shortening procedure can be done in 2 ways:
Option 1
Send us your complete & still assembled driveshaft, pump, and stator assembly and specify the thickness of your transom panel (for non-Minijet hulls). We will measure and machine your shaft to match our Yamaha intake housing before shipping your shortened shaft and pump assembly back to you.
* Note that in order to select Option 1 you must be using a recently-purchased pre-fabricated & machined Minijet Yamaha intake (the D-plate should be pre-welded on to the intake and the face machined from factory). For older intake kits where the D-plate was not welded onto your intake from factory, or if another brand of intake was used, Option 2 below must be used.
Option 2
Record the amount of length you wish to be removed from your shaft and ship it to us. We will machine your shaft to the dimension you specify and ship it back to you.
Please select your preference:
Description
Measuring Your Driveshaft (Option 2 only):
- After fully installing your intake into your boat (with marine sealant), install the complete jet pump with the un-shortened driveshaft installed onto the back of the boat.
- Bolt the bearing spacer plate to the back/mating face of the bearing carrier/intermediate shaft/coupler assembly, torquing the fastener to the manufacturer’s specifications, ensuring the lip seal compresses adequately
- Slip the female spline of the bearing carrier/intermediate shaft/coupler assembly onto the driveshaft so the connection is fully mechanically bottomed-out (ensuring there is no grease or air preventing this from occurring)
- Measure the distance between the back of the bearing spacer plate, and the front of the D-plate/mounting face of the intake. This measurement is the amount that the shaft should be shortened by. If you are between 16th’s of an inch, we recommend rounding up the length to be removed, so your bearing carrier is not under constant pressure when installed.
Please Note:
- We will typically remove 1/8″ more than specified to allow for some slack in the system and to ensure that your driveshaft is not bottomed out in the spline coupler during operation. This is also intended to counter any additional thickness generated by the adhesive applied between the D-plate/mounting face of the intake and the bearing spacer plate when adhered for final installation.
- When using a non-Minijet intake, a bearing spacer plate may not be used, and as a result your measurement procedure will vary.
- A shaft measurement can be taken from an intake not installed in a boat, however the thickness of the transom, plus the thickness of any adhesive must be factored in to the length calculation.
Shipping Your Driveshaft:
Shipping of the shaft and any pump components both ways is at the expense of the customer and will be billed separately from the machining service you purchase as this product.
We are not responsible for any damage that occurs to your items in transit – please pack your parts securely and include your name, matching your order. Once the process is complete we will re-use your packaging carton to ship your shortened shaft back to you.
Please ship your driveshaft to the address as found on our Contact Us page once your order has been confirmed.

Over Center Reverse Linkage for Southern Jet Nozzle
|
Our new over center reverse linkage is a bolt-on upgrade for the trimmable posi nozzle and matching cast reverse bucket. This linkage mounts to existing interfaces on the body of the nozzle, and it helps to easily lift and lower the cast reverse bucket.
In the lifted position, the over center linkage design locks the bucket in position. This stop the bucket from unexpectedly dropping down and throwing your boat in reverse.
In the lowered position, the integrated linkage travel stops hold the reverse bucket in the perfect position for better reverse handling
